QED completes licensing deal to Digital Vision Sweden for colour correction Patent on behalf of Cintel Inc.

Scipher plc, the technology development and licensing company, announces that its intellectual property (IP) licensing arm QED, has signed a licensing agreement on behalf of Cintel Inc. - the industry leader in telecine systems - to Digital Vision Sweden (DVS) for its colour correction patent.

Cintel Inc. engaged QED to maximise the value available from its colour correction patent, which uses digital technology for colour correction in television and film, and in the conversion to other forms of media.

  • DVS will incorporate the patent into existing and new generations of standard and high-definition colour correction systems.
  • Colour correction is an established process within the motion picture industry and is used to ensure colours appear to be constant to the viewer, throughout a film and from scene to scene.
  • Colour correction also prevents distortions caused by transferring film to other formats such as video.
  • The patented technology may have applications in other industries where colour correction Is needed such as PC displays, video recorders and photography equipment.

Graham Barber, Director of Market Development for Cintel, said, "we are very pleased to have extracted further value from our intellectual property portfolio; working with QED has enabled us to concentrate on our core business whilst benefiting from owning this intellectual property."

Commenting on the licence agreement, Dr Kenneth Gray, Chairman of Scipher said: "Once again, QED has enabled a company to maximise the value of its intellectual property through fully exploiting a patent held within the business. For DVS it means that they will be able to use this state of the art technology in products from now on."
