Background information
The Patent - 4873662
In the 1970's BT was a pioneer in the development of viewdata systems.
Viewdata systems, such as Prestel (UK) and Minitel (France) were interactive
information retrieval systems that offered consumers many of the services found
on the World Wide Web today.
This pioneering development work on the convergence of telecommunications and
computing led to patented inventions now used in hyperlinks on the World Wide
Web.
